Meet the Interns: Alex Diercks
Jul 17, 2016
My name is Alex Diercks. I am the accounting intern, working in the Moundridge office. I will be a senior at Kansas State University this fall majoring in agricultural business with a minor in agronomy. Growing up, I lived just outside of Chapman. I didn’t grow up on a farming operation, but I did live in the country. My family had horses in our pasture and would fish in the pond from time to time. Whenever my siblings and I had the chance, we would run off to the woods to go hunting for whatever was in season at the time. It didn’t matter to us what we were looking for, we were just happy to be outside. I was immensely involved in FFA and 4-H where I found my devotion to agriculture. In FFA, I held several offices and was always trying a new Career Development Event such as dairy cattle, meats or nursery, anything that I could gain new knowledge about. For 4-H, I did a little bit of everything from baking to demonstrations.
This summer I will be working on multiple projects for MKC as an accounting intern. My first project is to create a way to inform and test employees who have access to banking about the realities of bank phishing. I am also working on laying out and analyzing a DuPont Profitability Model, a model for cooperatives showing the various accounting ratios needed to make important decisions within the company. This model will be compared with the financial conditions of MKC during the 2015 and 2016 fiscal years. The last project I will be working on over the summer is transitioning all of TMA field marketers’ expenses into a software platform that can be followed. I look forward to the trips all of the interns will be taking. These trips include various MKC elevators, Co-Op 101, the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center, the MKC Annual Meeting and more.
I have always wanted to work in agriculture. I appreciate the opportunity to intern for a company who is progressive and innovative. I have gained a lot of knowledge from MKC about agriculture and accounting, but I know there is still much to learn. I am thrilled to see what is still to come with this internship.
